Youth and Skill Development
JAAGO Foundation’s Youth Development Program (YDP) empowers young people across Bangladesh through its flagship Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) platform, promoting active civic participation and leadership. Guided by the Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach and aligned with the UNSDGs, VBD has engaged over 55,000 youth in all 64 districts and 495 upazilas, while also supporting the capacity development of youth-led organisations.
In partnership with the Edward M. Kennedy (EMK) Centre, JAAGO provides spaces for open dialogue, critical thinking, and cross-cultural collaboration, strengthening ties between Bangladeshi and American youth. Through collaboration with the U.S. Embassy's Public Diplomacy Section (PDS), JAAGO implements an annual activity calendar supported by small grants that align with policy priorities. Additionally, through the BIJOYEE project, funded by USAID, youth were trained in market-relevant, in-demand skills to better prepare them for the evolving workforce.
JAAGO, in collaboration with Generation Unlimited (GenU) and UNICEF, is implementing the “Skilled Futures: Enhancing the abilities of youth in Bangladesh” project to build youth capacity nationwide. Key components include forming a 160-member Bangladesh Youth Advisory Team (BYAT) with 50% female and 3–5% youth with disabilities, scaling the Passport to Earning (P2E) program, and mobilising communities across eight divisions to promote inclusion, gender equality, and access to income-generating opportunities for marginalised youth.
JAAGO has also implemented two successful phases of the “Youth For Change” project. The initiative promotes civic engagement by strengthening young people's capacity as civic activists and advocates of democracy, governance, electoral rights, and long-term youth participation in decision-making processes.
As part of its peacebuilding efforts, JAAGO led the “Youth Initiatives for Peace Building” campaign under Shantite Bijoy, in collaboration with UNDP Dhaka. The Foundation also established the National Youth Assembly, supported by a grant from the American Center, to bring youth voices to national platforms.
Through the “Voice of Youth” project, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), JAAGO ensures that young people understand and participate in the electoral process, and that their voices and concerns are acknowledged by decision-makers.
JAAGO is also implementing the “Shomotay Tarunno: Youth for Equality” project to empower youth to challenge harmful gender stereotypes through advocacy, media sensitization, and engagement with educational and legal institutions.
In partnership with TikTok, JAAGO is implementing “সাবধানে অনলাইন এ (Shabdhane Online A)”, an internet safety initiative across five divisions. Through workshops, video competitions, and social media outreach, the project educates more than 0.1 million youth and influencers on responsible internet use. It combines online content with offline campaigns and culminates in a divisional summit on digital safety.
