Recognising the need to combat crises such as growing economic inequality and rising climate change, JAAGO Foundation is dedicated to addressing climate impact and building resilience through literacy, justice, and feminism in Bangladesh. It works to increase the understanding of climate change among youth and has organised initiatives and partnerships to create awareness and take action. The ImaGen Venture Youth Challenge, in collaboration with Generation Unlimited and UNICEF, received 300 local climate solutions from 8 divisions, resulting in 20 impactful ideas for implementation.
Discussions on climate were organised with the British High Commission to raise awareness of youth engagement in climate action. Through the Youth Development Program, JAAGO mobilises youth to promote water crisis awareness, sanitation, and hygiene. We collaborated with Water Aid on capacity-building training and hand hygiene programs. Waste management projects like the Korail Clean-Up Project and the Woori Eco Leadership School Project raise awareness and engage youth and communities. JAAGO Foundation also addresses waterlogging issues and conducts initiatives to reduce emissions and deforestation.
A central pillar of JAAGO’s climate strategy is climate feminism, which highlights the disproportionate impact of climate change on women, children, and the elderly. Recognising that these groups often face the greatest risks while having the least resources, JAAGO works to empower young female leaders and ensure their active participation in climate resilience planning and implementation.
As part of this commitment, JAAGO is implementing the “NOBODOY: Alternative Climate Adaptive Livelihood for Vulnerable Communities” project. This initiative focuses on building climate-resilient skills among women and youth, enhancing girls’ and women’s access to markets and financial services, and increasing community-wide awareness of climate and social challenges.
