Brief description of JAAGO Foundation

JAAGO Foundation is a civil society organization (CSO) working towards the education and social mobilization of the underprivileged masses of Bangladesh. With its mission to fight poverty, JAAGO pioneered a Free- of- Cost International Standard School for underprivileged children in remote areas of Bangladesh. JAAGO's Youth Development Program focuses on national development via the reallocation of skills and resources to foster self- reliance and growth in every young citizen.

Position Summary:

The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The role involves managing routine banking activities, preparing and reviewing financial documentation, and supporting day- to- day accounting operations.

The Finance Officer plays a key role in ensuring timely financial reporting, monitoring transactions, and maintaining proper documentation to support audits and internal controls. This position requires strong attention to detail, sound numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross- functional teams. Through effective financial management practices, the Finance Officer contributes to organizational transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Financial Management & Accounting

  • Maintain accurate financial records for all program- related transactions.
  • Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system (Odoo).
  • Prepare and verify vouchers (payment, receipt, journal).
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of all financial records.

2. Budget Monitoring & Control

  • Monitor program budgets and track expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Assist in budget preparation and revisions.
  • Identify variances and report to management with recommendations.

3. Payment & Disbursement

  • Process payments (vendor bills, staff reimbursements, program expenses).
  • Ensure all payments are properly approved and supported by documents.
  • Maintain petty cash and ensure compliance with cash policies.

4. Banking & Reconciliation

  • Prepare bank reconciliation statements regularly.
  • Coordinate bank transactions (deposits, withdrawals, transfers).
  • Ensure proper tracking of all program funds.

5. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with organizational financial policies and donor guidelines.
  • Support VAT & Tax (TDS) documentation and coordination with relevant team members.
  • Maintain audit- ready documentation at all times.

6. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for the education program.
  • Support preparation of donor reports and grant financial statements.
  • Provide financial data for management decision- making.

7. Audit Support

  • Assist internal and external audits by providing required documents.
  • Ensure proper response to audit observations.
  • Support implementation of audit recommendations.

8. Coordination & Support

  • Coordinate with program teams (school/admin staff) for financial matters.
  • Provide guidance on financial procedures and documentation.
  • Support training of field staff on financial compliance when needed.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's/Master's from a reputed university. Major in Finance or Accounting or any relevant field.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 - 3 years of experience working in Finance Department.

Skills and Other Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Bangla.
  • Ability to handle challenges and adapt to changing situations.
  • Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in fieldwork or working with communities is preferred.
